• It's a slow crushing process. Every day you tolerate a little this, a little that. I am a sensitive person. When something bothers me, it will pinch and I'll accept that and I'll go on and say chalo, next time. But you wake up one day and you're suffocating. You have to quench your natural desire to scream, run or just get out.

• At college, I had just one friend who was Asian and she came up with this wacky idea of going for a visit to India. I was going through a rough time and feeling unhappy with my life at that point, so I thought, why not? We flew to Mumbai and she introduced me to a photographer friend of hers. I didn't have much of a portfolio then, so I had some pictures taken and through that I met some influential people. As I had travelled so much in my childhood, it was not that much of a shock to move to a new city. If anything, I instantly felt at home.

• Obviously if everyone were to see me when I wake up in the morning or in my track pants and then vote for me, then maybe I would be a little bit more believing of it myself. But of course it's very flattering.
